I don’t believe in evolution
or creationism
or other isms on how we came to be
even the next new theory is predictably
one more among many plausible stories
trying to tame the inexplicable.
No, I believe in Miracles
those faithful, ever-present companions
who walk beside us and love us all the same
generously showering
each moment and heartbeat
with messages of remembrance.
Miracles say
Put away the calculator
in favor of your eyes, your fingertips,
your wild and beautiful Imagination,
that wayward cousin of Reason
we seldom greet with due respect.
The Enlightened Imagination
muse of creativity and understanding
teaches us empathy, compassion, kindness
every fine and noble human virtue
that we may then witness unreservedly
the Grandest Miracle of all: ourselves.
Like songbirds over a greening valley
whose feathers repel the morning rain,
a Soaring Imagination protects us
from trenchant opinion and short-sightedness,
animating and illuminating
the sustaining Miracles of every day.
